Varuṇa said: “If he should ever force himself upon a woman who does not desire him—indeed, upon any other woman—then his head would certainly split into a hundred pieces.” Thus, in former times, this curse had been pronounced upon him (Rāvaṇa), establishing a moral limit against coercion and violation of another’s will.

The verse underscores a dharmic boundary: violating an unwilling woman is a grave adharma that invites inevitable, catastrophic consequence. It frames coercion as morally and cosmically punishable.
Varuṇa recalls an earlier curse placed upon Rāvaṇa: if he ever forces himself upon an unwilling woman—any woman other than one who consents—his head will split into a hundred pieces. The statement functions as a remembered constraint and warning within the story.
