Adhyāya 290: Kuntī’s Mantra-Parīkṣā and the Appearance of Sūrya (कुन्ती–सूर्यसंवादः)

yodhayāmāsatur ubhau rāvarṇiṃ rāma-lakṣmaṇau |

Mārkaṇḍeya said: Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa, both of them, engaged in battle with Rāvaṇa’s son. Even though the rākṣasa prince, through magical concealment, could not be seen, the two heroic brothers did not abandon the fight and continued to meet him in combat—steadfast in courage and duty despite uncertainty and deception.

Educational Q&A

Steadfastness in dharma: even when faced with deception, uncertainty, or an unseen opponent, one should not abandon rightful duty. Courage is shown by continuing disciplined effort despite fear and confusion created by māyā.

Mārkaṇḍeya narrates that Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa continue fighting Rāvaṇa’s son. Although he becomes invisible through magical concealment, the brothers persist in combat, refusing to be deterred by illusion.
