Adhyāya 290: Kuntī’s Mantra-Parīkṣā and the Appearance of Sūrya (कुन्ती–सूर्यसंवादः)
तमभ्याशगतं वीरमड़॒दं रावणात्मज:
tam abhyāśagataṁ vīram ādadānaṁ rāvaṇātmajaḥ
Mārkaṇḍeya said: Seeing that heroic warrior come within close range, Rāvaṇa’s son moved to seize him—an act that signals the tightening of combat and the peril that follows when pride and aggression overtake restraint.
मार्कण्डेय उवाच
The verse highlights how proximity in conflict often triggers impulsive aggression; ethical strength lies in restraint and discernment, whereas pride-driven seizure invites further violence and consequences.
Mārkaṇḍeya describes a battle moment: a heroic warrior comes close, and Rāvaṇa’s son attempts to seize him, indicating an immediate physical engagement and intensification of the fight.
