Mārkaṇḍeya said: When Rāghava (Śrī Rāma) saw the ten-headed Rāvaṇa marching out from the city with his forces drawn up in battle-array, he too—following the method taught by Bṛhaspati—formed a counter-array against that night-roaming foe. The episode highlights disciplined, righteous strategy: strength is to be guided by proper counsel and ordered conduct, not by mere fury.
मार्कण्डेय उवाच
Even in war, righteous action depends on disciplined order and wise counsel. Rāma does not respond with chaos or rage; he counters an enemy’s formation by following an established, teacher-sanctioned method (Bṛhaspati’s vidhi), suggesting that power should be governed by dharma and proper strategy.
Rāvaṇa comes out of the city with his army arranged in a battle formation. Seeing this, Rāma organizes his own forces into a corresponding counter-formation, using the tactical procedure attributed to Bṛhaspati, preparing to meet the rākṣasa host in an ordered engagement.
