Mārkaṇḍeya said: That army, thick with many banners, looked like a second ocean. Reaching the forest along the seashore, it then made its camp there—an image of vast power pausing at the boundary of the sea, reminding that even great force must submit to place, time, and order.

Educational Q&A

The verse uses the ocean simile to show overwhelming might, yet it also implies restraint: even immense power must halt, organize, and act within boundaries (velā) and proper order—an ethical reminder that strength should be governed by discipline.

A vast, banner-filled army arrives at the forest by the seashore and establishes its encampment there, pausing its movement after reaching the coastal boundary.
