Mārkaṇḍeya said: “In a dream I saw Daśānana (Rāvaṇa) anointed with oil, his head shaven, sinking into mire. Again and again I beheld him standing upon a chariot yoked to donkeys, as though dancing.” The vision functions as an ominous portent: the proud wrongdoer is shown stripped of dignity and driven toward downfall, suggesting that adharma culminates in public disgrace and ruin.
मार्कण्डेय उवाच
The verse conveys that adharma and arrogance lead to inevitable degradation: the wrongdoer is symbolically shown losing honor and control, indicating karmic and moral consequences that culminate in disgrace and destruction.
Mārkaṇḍeya reports a recurring dream-vision in which Rāvaṇa is oiled and shaven, sinking in mud, and then seen standing on a donkey-yoked chariot as if dancing—an inauspicious sign foretelling his impending downfall.
