iti śrīmahābhārate vanaparvaṇi jayadrathavimokṣaṇaparvaṇi dvisaptatyadhikadviśatatamo 'dhyāyaḥ
Thus, in the Śrī Mahābhārata, within the Vana Parva, in the section concerning the release (deliverance) of Jayadratha, ends the two-hundred-and-seventy-second chapter.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
This line functions as a colophon, emphasizing textual closure and orderly transmission of the epic; ethically, it frames the Jayadratha episode as a completed unit, inviting reflection on restraint, justice, and the consequences of wrongdoing before the narrative proceeds.
The verse marks the end of a chapter within the Vana Parva, specifically within the sub-section dealing with Jayadratha’s release/deliverance; it signals a transition point rather than adding new plot action.
