Arrival of Mārkaṇḍeya and Counsel on Truth-Vows
brāhma kṣatreṇa saṃsṛṣṭaṃ kṣatraṃ ca brahmaṇā saha | udīrṇe dahataḥ śatrūn vanānīvāgnimārutī ||
Vaiśaṃpāyana said: When the priestly power (brāhma) is joined with the warrior power (kṣatra), and the warrior power stands together with the priestly power, the two—once fully aroused—burn down their enemies, just as fire and wind together consume entire forests. The verse underscores that righteous counsel and disciplined force, when united, become an overwhelming instrument against hostility.
The verse teaches that dharmic counsel (brāhma) and disciplined royal/martial power (kṣatra) are most effective when united; their cooperation can decisively overcome hostility, like fire intensified by wind.
Vaiśaṃpāyana delivers a reflective statement using a simile: when Brahminical authority and Kshatriya strength act together and become fully mobilized, they can destroy enemies as fire and wind together burn a forest.
