Draupadī-apaharaṇa-saṃdeśaḥ
Report of Draupadī’s Abduction and the Pāṇḍavas’ Pursuit
व्याभाषमाणाश्षान्योन्यं न मे जीवन् विमोक्ष्यसे । सर्वे शस्त्रास्त्रमोक्षेण पौरुषे समवस्थिता:
vyābhāṣamāṇāś cānyonyaṃ na me jīvan vimokṣyase | sarve śastrāstramokṣeṇa pauruṣe samavasthitāḥ ||
As they shouted back and forth at one another, he declared, “You will not escape me alive.” With that vow, all of them stood firm in their manly resolve, ready to unleash weapons and missiles—speech giving way to the grim ethic of combat where pride and survival are staked on force.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights how verbal hostility quickly hardens into violent resolve: once pride and enmity dominate, the parties commit themselves to force, framing survival and honor in martial terms rather than restraint.
Vaiśaṃpāyana narrates a confrontation where opponents exchange heated words; one issues a deadly threat—“you will not escape alive”—and all participants take their positions, prepared to discharge weapons and missiles.
