Mārkaṇḍeya said: “He who, with a focused mind, recites this account of Skanda’s life in this very birth, or causes brāhmaṇas to hear it, or himself listens to it from the mouth of a brāhmaṇa—such a man attains wealth, long life, radiant fame, sons, victory over enemies, and the twin blessings of nourishment and contentment; and in the end he reaches Skanda’s world.”

Educational Q&A

The verse presents a phalaśruti: devoted, attentive recitation or hearing of Skanda’s life-story—especially through brāhmaṇas—yields both worldly goods (prosperity, longevity, fame, offspring, victory) and a final spiritual reward (Skanda’s realm), emphasizing faith, disciplined attention, and reverence for sacred transmission.

Mārkaṇḍeya concludes a section about Skanda by stating the fruits of engaging with the narrative: one who reads, teaches, or listens to Skanda’s birth-account with single-pointed mind gains multiple blessings and ultimately attains sālokya with Skanda.
