Thus, anointed by all the hosts of gods to the office of commander of the divine forces and adorned with splendid ornaments, Skanda—pure and inwardly delighted—shone forth like the disk of the full moon. The scene underscores the ethical ideal that rightful authority is confirmed through collective recognition and consecration, and that leadership is to be borne with clarity of mind and auspicious composure.

Educational Q&A

Legitimate authority is affirmed through proper consecration and the consent of the righteous community (here, the gods). True leadership is marked not merely by power and ornament, but by inner purity, clarity, and a composed, benevolent mind—symbolized by Skanda’s full-moon radiance.

Mārkaṇḍeya describes Skanda being ceremonially anointed by all the gods as their senāpati (commander). Adorned with ornaments and filled with joy and purity, he appears resplendent like the full moon.
