Vaiśampāyana said: When the lord of the Daśārhas (Śrī Kṛṣṇa) had departed, Yudhiṣṭhira, Bhīmasena, and Arjuna—together with the twin brothers (Nakula and Sahadeva), Kṛṣṇā (Draupadī), and their family priest—mounted splendid, costly chariots yoked with excellent horses. Preparing to move on to another forest, they set out in a manner befitting dharma: honoring learned Brāhmaṇas versed in Veda, Vedāṅgas, and mantra with gifts such as gold coins, garments, and cattle, they began their journey.

Educational Q&A

Even in hardship and transition, the Pāṇḍavas uphold dharma through orderly conduct and dāna—honoring Vedic learning and sustaining the social-religious fabric by gifting wealth, clothing, and cattle to deserving Brāhmaṇas.

After Śrī Kṛṣṇa leaves, Yudhiṣṭhira and his companions—his brothers, Draupadī, and the priest Dhaumya—mount fine chariots and set out toward another forest (linked with Dvaitavana in the chapter’s framing), beginning their journey after making customary gifts to learned Brāhmaṇas.
