Thus, in the Śrī Mahābhārata, within the Vana Parva, in the section summarizing Mārkaṇḍeya’s narration, in the episode concerning the birth of the Kumāra (Skanda), ends the two-hundred-and-twenty-eighth chapter. The colophon formally closes the chapter, situating the teaching within Mārkaṇḍeya’s authoritative discourse and the sacred narrative of divine origins.

Educational Q&A

This line is a colophon rather than a didactic verse: its function is to authenticate and locate the narrative within the Mahābhārata’s structure. Ethically, it underscores the tradition’s emphasis on reliable transmission—wisdom is framed as coming through recognized sages (here, Mārkaṇḍeya) and carefully preserved textual divisions.

The chapter is being formally concluded. The colophon states that, within the Vana Parva and within the section associated with Mārkaṇḍeya’s summarized narration, the episode concerning the birth/origin of the Kumāra has reached the end of the chapter (counted here as the 228th).
