Markandeya said: “Three other maidens were born, and for them Bharata became the protector and guardian. To that Bharata there was born one son named Bharata and one daughter named Bhāratī.”
मार्कण्डेय उवाच
The verse highlights familial dharma: a capable elder (Bharata) assumes responsibility as guardian for younger girls, and the continuity of lineage is noted through the naming of his children.
Mārkaṇḍeya continues a genealogical account: three additional daughters are mentioned under Bharata’s protection, and then Bharata’s own two children—his son Bharata and his daughter Bhāratī—are introduced.
