Mārkaṇḍeya uvāca—Bṛhaspateś candramasī bhāryā āsīd yā yaśasvinī | agnīn sā janayat puṇyān ṣaḍ ekāṃ cāpi putrikām ||
Mārkaṇḍeya said: O King, Bṛhaspati’s illustrious wife, known as Candramasī (Tārā), gave birth to six sacred fires and also to a single daughter. The account introduces a lineage narrative in which even divine progeny are framed as auspicious and ritually significant, underscoring the ethical idea that sacred order is sustained through rightful generation and consecrated forms (such as Agni).
मार्कण्डेय उवाच
The verse foregrounds the sanctity of lineage and the sustaining role of sacred institutions—here symbolized by Agni (ritual fire). It implies that dharmic order is maintained through auspicious, consecrated origins and the continuity of sacred powers.
Mārkaṇḍeya begins a genealogical account: he tells the king that Bṛhaspati’s famed wife Candramasī (identified with Tārā) bore six sacred fires and one daughter, setting up further details about their descendants.
