Adhyāya 22: Śālva’s Weapon-Shower, Dāruka’s Wounding, and the Māyā-Report of Vasudeva’s Father

tato 'haṃ samavasthāpya rathaṃ saubha-samīpataḥ | śaṅkhaṃ pradhmāpya harṣeṇa suhṛdaḥ paryaharṣayam |

Then I stationed my chariot close to the Saubha aerial fortress. Blowing my conch with exhilaration, I filled my well-wishers and allies with renewed joy and confidence—an act meant to steady hearts and rally resolve before the impending clash.

Educational Q&A

Even in conflict, a leader’s duty includes strengthening the morale of companions through timely signals and confident action; courage and clarity can be ethically supportive when directed toward protecting one’s side and sustaining resolve.

Vāyudeva positions his chariot near the Saubha aerial fortress and blows a conch in delight, using the sound as a rallying call that heartens his allies and prepares them emotionally for the confrontation.
