tato rāgaḥ prabhavati dveṣaś ca tad-anantaram | tato lobhaḥ prabhavati mohaś ca tad-anantaram ||
“From that arises intense attachment; and immediately after it, aversion. From that arises greed; and immediately after it, delusion that clouds the intellect.”
The verse maps a moral-psychological chain: attachment (rāga) gives rise to aversion (dveṣa) when obstructed; this fuels greed (lobha) for the desired object; and greed culminates in delusion (moha), which obscures right judgment and dharmic conduct.
In the Vyādha’s discourse in Vana Parva, he instructs the listener on how indulgence in sense-objects and unchecked impulses progressively corrupt the mind—moving from attraction to hostility, then to grasping, and finally to confusion—thereby undermining dharma.
