brāhmaṇa uvāca: bravīṣi sūnṛtaṃ dharmyaṃ yasya vaktā na vidyate | divya-prabhāvaḥ sumahān ṛṣir eva mato 'si me, dharmavyādha ||
The Brahmin said: “You speak truthful and righteous words—so pleasing and fitting to dharma—that no other teacher of such speech is to be found. To me, O Dharma-vyādha, you seem to be none other than a great sage endowed with a divine power.”
ब्राह्मण उवाच
True dharma can be expressed through sūnṛta—truthful, benevolent speech—and genuine wisdom is recognized by its ethical clarity, not by social status. The Brahmin acknowledges that the Dharma-vyādha’s words embody rare, authoritative insight.
In the Vana Parva episode of the Dharma-vyādha, a Brahmin listens to the vyādha’s counsel on dharma and is struck by its depth and sweetness. He praises the speaker as uniquely capable and even suspects him to be a great sage with divine power.
