Mārkaṇḍeya said: He became renowned by the name “Dhundhumāra,” and he proved to be a warrior without an equal—so formidable that none could stand against him. The epithet reflects the ethical ideal of a king who removes a destructive threat (Dhundhu) and thereby protects the world through righteous valor.

Educational Q&A

A righteous king earns lasting renown by removing forces that harm society; true fame is grounded in dharmic protection and courage, not mere conquest.

Mārkaṇḍeya describes how the king (Kuvalāśva) became famous as “Dhundhumāra” after slaying the demon Dhundhu, and how this deed made him an unmatched warrior whom no opponent could face.
