Vaiśaṃpāyana said: “O best of the Bhārgavas, I wish to know this truthfully—how it came about that the wise king Kuvalāśva’s name was altered. Tell me the real cause behind that change of name.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse models a disciplined approach to knowledge: one should seek the truth (tattvena) and ask for the real causes behind events, especially when identity and reputation (a king’s name) are at stake.
Vaiśaṃpāyana addresses a Bhṛgu-line sage and asks him to explain, in factual detail, how and why the wise king Kuvalāśva came to have his name changed.
