Mārkaṇḍeya said: “Dear child, in the Ikṣvāku lineage there will arise a king named Bṛhadaśva—renowned for great valor and unconquered by any foe. His son, pure in conduct and master of his senses, will become celebrated by the name Kuvalāśva.”
मार्कण्डेय उवाच
The verse links rightful kingship with inner discipline: true renown is grounded not only in martial prowess (vīrya, parākrama) but also in purity and self-mastery (pavitra, jitendriya).
Mārkaṇḍeya foretells the rise of an unconquered Ikṣvāku king named Bṛhadaśva and introduces his son Kuvalāśva, emphasizing their fame and virtues as part of a dynastic account.
