त्वमेवैतदशानेति तत्राह तथेति शिबिस्तथैवाविमना महित्वा कपालमभ्थयुद्धार्य भोक्तुमैच्छत्‌,“तुम्हीं यह सब खा जाओ।' शिबिने उसी प्रकार मनको प्रसन्न रखते हुए “बहुत अच्छा' कहकर ब्राह्मणकी आज्ञा स्वीकार की और उनका पूजन करके (सिरपर रखे हुए) ढककनको उघाड़कर वह सब खानेकी इच्छा की

tvam evaitad aśāneti tatrāha tatheti śibis tathaivāvimano mahitvā kapālam abhyayuddhārya bhoktum aicchat |

Vaiśampāyana said: “You alone should eat all this,” said the Brahmin. Śibi, untroubled in mind, replied, “So be it.” Honoring the Brahmin’s command, he accepted it as ‘very well,’ paid him due reverence, and then, lifting the lid from the vessel set upon his head, he resolved to eat what had been placed there—showing steadfast obedience, self-control, and the kingly virtue of keeping one’s word even under severe trial.
