The Vāmadeva Horses Episode and the Ethics of Promise
sṛṣṭvā devamanuṣyāṁs tu gandharvoragarākṣasān | sthāvarāṇi ca bhūtāni saṁharāmy ātma-māyayā ||
Having brought forth—by my own power—gods and humans, Gandharvas, Nāgas, and Rākṣasas, as well as the immobile orders of beings, I also withdraw them again in due time through my own māyā. The teaching underscores a moral perspective on impermanence: all embodied forms arise and pass under a higher governance, so one should not cling to pride, fear, or hatred, but align one’s conduct with dharma amid change.
