There, delightful and expansive lotus-ponds lie—free from sorrow and filled with auspiciousness—abundantly blossoming with flowers. They are without any mire, alive with fish, and furnished with beautiful steps and landing-places for bathing. Each pond is spread over with golden lotuses, presenting a vision of purity and sacred calm.

Educational Q&A

The verse elevates the idea of tīrtha and sacred space: purity (akardamā), auspiciousness (supuṇyāḥ), and orderly access for ritual bathing (sutīrthāḥ) symbolize an environment conducive to inner clarity and merit, where nature itself reflects dharmic harmony.

Mārkaṇḍeya describes a wondrous region marked by beautiful, holy lotus-ponds—mudless, full of fish, with pleasant bathing-steps—covered with golden lotuses, as part of a larger depiction of an extraordinary sacred landscape.
