Vaiśaṃpāyana said: “Nakula and Sahadeva—the twin brothers—are ever devoted to following the commands of their elders and teachers. Protected by the strength of my arms, they continually take pride in their manly valor.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights an ethical ideal: disciplined obedience to elders and teachers (guru-vṛtti) alongside cultivated martial capability. Valor is presented as legitimate when guided by respect for authority and protective responsibility, not mere self-assertion.
The narrator Vaiśaṃpāyana describes Nakula and Sahadeva as twin brothers who consistently follow their elders’ instructions and are safeguarded by the speaker’s strength, while maintaining confidence in their own prowess.
