Vaiśampāyana said: Having reached him, the wise Yudhiṣṭhira saw his beloved brother wrapped tight in the coils of a serpent. Moved by concern and guided by discernment, he addressed him with these words—setting the stage for a dharmic encounter in which calm inquiry and right speech confront peril and bewildering power.

Educational Q&A

In a moment of danger, dharma expresses itself as composed, compassionate, and discerning speech: Yudhiṣṭhira does not panic or lash out, but approaches the crisis with steadiness and readiness for dialogue, implying that wisdom and right conduct are the first remedies in adversity.

Yudhiṣṭhira arrives and finds Bhīma physically trapped—wrapped in a serpent’s coils (the serpent-form Nahūṣa in the broader episode). He begins to speak, initiating the exchange that will test understanding, ethics, and the power of truthful answers.
