Arjuna said: “Out of great respect, Vāsava (Indra) even touched my limbs with his own hand. There, in that heavenly realm—O Bharata bestower of abundant sacrificial gifts—I stayed among the gods and Gandharvas in order to obtain mastery of the science of weapons, and I practiced the use of weapons every day. At that time, I also formed a friendship with Citraseṇa, the son of the Gandharva-king Viśvāvasu.”

Educational Q&A

The passage highlights disciplined self-improvement under worthy guidance: divine honor is shown not as mere privilege, but as a call to sustained practice (abhyāsa) and the cultivation of constructive alliances (maitrī) in pursuit of a righteous purpose.

Arjuna narrates his stay in Svarga after receiving Indra’s respectful welcome. He lives among gods and Gandharvas to learn the science of weapons, practices daily, and becomes friends with Citraseṇa, son of the Gandharva-king Viśvāvasu.
