Arjuna’s Arrival and Reunion on the Sacred Mountain

Janamejaya uvāca:

na hi me śṛṇvatas tṛptir asti teṣāṃ viceṣṭitam |

pratyahanyanta te sarve gadām āsādya sāyakāḥ |

na vegaṃ dhārayāmāsur gadāvegasya vegitāḥ ||

Janamejaya said: “As I listen, I find no satiety in hearing of their deeds. Tell me more in detail. For all those arrows, though launched with great speed, struck Manimān’s mace and were shattered; the swift-flying shafts could not withstand the momentum of the mace wielded by one practiced in its use.”

Educational Q&A

The passage highlights attentive listening to dharma-narratives and the human desire to learn from exemplary lives; it also underscores that disciplined mastery (abhyāsa) can overcome even great raw force—swift arrows fail before the practiced power of the mace.

Janamejaya urges the narrator to continue, saying he is never satisfied hearing the heroes’ deeds. In the described combat, all arrows—though shot with speed—strike Manimān’s mace and are shattered, unable to endure the mace’s momentum.
