Arjuna’s Arrival and Reunion on the Sacred Mountain
शरैरविंव्याध गात्राणि राक्षसानां महाबल: । सा लोहितमहावृष्टिर भ्यवर्षन्महाबलम्,भारत! तदनन्तर उन यक्षों और गन्धवोंका भीमसेनके साथ युद्ध प्रारम्भ हो गया। वे यक्ष और राक्षस बड़े मायावी थे। उनके चलाये हुए शूल, शक्ति और फरसोंको भीमसेनने भयानक वेगशाली भल्ल नामक बाणोंद्वारा काट गिराया। वे राक्षस आकाशमें उड़कर तथा भूतलपर खड़े होकर जोर-जोरसे गर्जना कर रहे थे। महाबली भीमने बाणोंकी झड़ी लगाकर उनके शरीरोंको अच्छी प्रकार छेद डाला। गदा और परिघ हाथमें लिये हुए राक्षसोंके शरीरसे महाबली भीमपर खूनकी बड़ी भारी वर्षा होने लगी तथा चारों ओर राक्षसोंके शरीरसे रक्तकी कितनी ही धाराएँ बह चलीं
śarair avivyādha gātrāṇi rākṣasānāṁ mahābalaḥ | sā lohita-mahā-vṛṣṭir abhyavarṣan mahābalam, bhārata |
Vaiśaṃpāyana said: The mighty Bhīma pierced the limbs of the Rākṣasas with his arrows. Then, O Bhārata, a great rain of blood poured down upon that powerful hero—so profuse that streams of gore flowed in every direction from the bodies of the stricken demons. The scene underscores the grim cost of violent conflict even when undertaken in the course of protecting one’s own and resisting hostile forces.
