Arjuna’s Arrival and Reunion on the Sacred Mountain

vaiśampāyana uvāca | gadākhaḍgadhanuṣpāṇiḥ samabhityaktajīvitaḥ | bhīmaseno mahābāhus tasthau girir ivācalaḥ ||

Vaiśampāyana said: With mace, sword, and bow in hand, having wholly cast aside attachment to life, the mighty-armed Bhīmasena stood firm—motionless like an unshakable mountain. The verse frames his resolve as an ethical stance of fearless duty: a warrior who, in the face of peril, relinquishes self-preserving hesitation and steadies himself for the action demanded by his role.

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights kṣātra-dharma expressed as fearless steadiness: when duty calls, a warrior must abandon paralyzing attachment to personal safety and stand firm, disciplined and ready, like an immovable mountain.

Vaiśampāyana describes Bhīma armed with mace, sword, and bow, having resolved to risk his life. He stands motionless and unwavering, signaling readiness for imminent confrontation.
