Arjuna’s Arrival and Reunion on the Sacred Mountain
गदाखड््गधनुष्पाणि: समभित्यक्तजीवित: । भीमसेनो महाबाहुस्तस्थौ गिरिरिवाचल:,उनके हाथमें गदा, खड़ग और धनुष शोभा पा रहे थे। उन्होंने अपने जीवनका मोह सर्वथा छोड़ दिया था। वे माहबाहु भीमसेन वहाँ पर्वतकी भाँति अविचल-भावसे कुछ देर खड़े रहे। तत्पश्चात् उन्होंने बड़े जोरसे शंख बजाया, जिसकी आवाज शशत्रुओंके रोंगटे खड़े कर देनेवाली थी। फिर धनुषकी टंकार करके समस्त प्राणियोंकों मोहित कर दिया
vaiśampāyana uvāca | gadākhaḍgadhanuṣpāṇiḥ samabhityaktajīvitaḥ | bhīmaseno mahābāhus tasthau girir ivācalaḥ ||
Vaiśampāyana said: With mace, sword, and bow in hand, having wholly cast aside attachment to life, the mighty-armed Bhīmasena stood firm—motionless like an unshakable mountain. The verse frames his resolve as an ethical stance of fearless duty: a warrior who, in the face of peril, relinquishes self-preserving hesitation and steadies himself for the action demanded by his role.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights kṣātra-dharma expressed as fearless steadiness: when duty calls, a warrior must abandon paralyzing attachment to personal safety and stand firm, disciplined and ready, like an immovable mountain.
Vaiśampāyana describes Bhīma armed with mace, sword, and bow, having resolved to risk his life. He stands motionless and unwavering, signaling readiness for imminent confrontation.
