Bhīmasena–Hanūmān Saṃvāda: The Tail Test and the Divine Path

vaiśampāyana uvāca | draupadīvākyapātheyo bhīmaḥ śīghrataraṃ yayau | kampayan medinīṃ padhyāṃ nirghāta iva parvasu ||

Vaiśampāyana said: Sustained by Draupadī’s pleading words as his very travel-provision, Bhīma set out with even greater speed. As he strode on, he made the earth tremble beneath his feet, like a thunderous calamity that strikes in the season of storms—his movement itself proclaiming fierce resolve born from loyalty and righteous anger at injustice.

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights how a just cause and a loved one’s earnest appeal can become ‘pātheya’—inner sustenance—transforming emotion into purposeful action. Bhīma’s force is not mere aggression; it is resolve directed toward restoring violated honor and supporting dharma.

Vaiśampāyana describes Bhīma setting out rapidly, driven by Draupadī’s words. His stride is portrayed as so powerful that it shakes the earth, likened to thunderous upheaval in a stormy season, emphasizing his urgency and formidable strength.
