Vaiśampāyana said: He was very tall, radiant with a golden hue, and built with the compact strength of a lion. Having entered the prime of youth, he moved with the proud, rolling gait of an intoxicated elephant, and his speed was like that of a rut-maddened lord of elephants. The passage underscores the ideal of heroic presence—power disciplined into a commanding, awe-inspiring bearing.

The verse highlights the classical epic ideal of heroic excellence: physical power, youthful vigor, and commanding presence. Ethically, such strength is implied to be meaningful when aligned with dharma—power that inspires order and protection rather than mere intimidation.
The narrator Vaiśampāyana is describing a figure’s appearance and movement in elevated, simile-rich language—tall and golden in radiance, lion-strong in build, and moving with the gait and speed of a rut-maddened elephant—setting a tone of awe around the person being introduced or observed.
