The whole earth (Vasumatī) was once lost—submerged and made to sink into the netherworld. Then the Lord, taking the form of the Boar with a single tusk, raised her up again. The episode recalls divine intervention to restore cosmic order when the world is overwhelmed, affirming that protection of the earth and re-establishment of dharma are paramount duties of the Supreme.

Educational Q&A

When the world is overwhelmed and order collapses, the divine acts to restore balance; safeguarding the earth and re-establishing dharma is presented as a supreme, sustaining responsibility.

The speaker recalls the Varāha episode: the earth disappeared beneath the waters and sank into Pātāla, and Viṣṇu, assuming the one-tusked Boar form, lifted and rescued her.
