tataḥ sarve ’bhiṣiñcāmo dharmarājaṁ yudhiṣṭhiram | nikṛtyopacaran vadhya eṣa dharmaḥ sanātanaḥ ||
Then we shall all consecrate Dharmarāja Yudhiṣṭhira once again. One who lives by deceit—practising fraud and treachery to enjoy prosperity—is fit to be slain; this, he declares, is the eternal rule of dharma. The statement frames the coming struggle as a restoration of rightful kingship and a moral response to adharma rather than mere personal vengeance.
वायुदेव उवाच
The verse asserts a moral principle: prosperity gained and enjoyed through deceit (nikṛti) is adharma, and such conduct warrants severe punishment; the claim is presented as ‘sanātana dharma’—a timeless ethical rule tied to protecting social order.
Vāyudeva speaks of restoring rightful sovereignty by re-consecrating Yudhiṣṭhira as Dharmarāja, framing the intended action against wrongdoers as a dharmic correction and re-establishment of legitimate rule.
