Arjuna said: “When Brahmā came into being, the two dreadful Dānava demons Madhu and Kaiṭabha rose up, intent on taking his life. Seeing their outrageous assault, you—Hari—were filled with wrath.” (The passage’s narrative context continues: from that divine anger, Śaṅkara is said to manifest, emphasizing the supremacy and protective power of the Lord against adharma.)
अजुन उवाच
Adharma—violent transgression against the innocent—provokes divine intervention; the Lord’s power is portrayed as upholding cosmic order and protecting the vulnerable (here, Brahmā) from destructive forces.
Arjuna recounts a cosmogonic episode: when Brahmā appears, the demons Madhu and Kaiṭabha attempt to kill him; seeing their assault, Hari becomes enraged, setting the stage for divine action against the demons.
