Kirmīra-rākṣasa-saṃgamaḥ (Encounter and Slaying of Kirmīra) |

śuṣyet toyanidhiḥ kṛṣṇe na me moghaṃ vaco bhavet | tac chrutvā draupadī vākyaṃ prativākyam athācyutāt |

Vāsudeva said: “O Kṛṣṇā (Draupadī), even if the ocean—the very storehouse of waters—were to dry up, my word will not prove futile. Hearing this reply from Acyuta to her own words, Draupadī, with a sidelong glance, looked toward her middle husband Arjuna.” The passage underscores Kṛṣṇa’s unwavering truthfulness and the moral force of a vow: divine speech is presented as ethically binding and incapable of falsehood, offering Draupadī assurance amid distress.

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights satya (truth) and the ethical inviolability of a righteous promise: Kṛṣṇa’s word is portrayed as unfailing, offering moral certainty that sustains the vulnerable in crisis.

Kṛṣṇa responds to Draupadī with an emphatic assurance—so firm that even cosmic impossibilities are invoked—after which Draupadī, reassured yet searching, turns her gaze toward Arjuna, setting up Arjuna’s ensuing response.
