Adhyāya 112: Ṛṣyaśṛṅga’s Description of an Exemplary Brahmacārī

Ascetic Presence and Vow-Practice

sa me samāśliṣya punaḥ śarīraṃ jaṭāsu gṛhṇābhyavanāmya vaktram | vaktreṇa vaktraṃ praṇidhāya śabdaṃ cakāra tan me ’janayat praharṣam ||

Again and again he embraced my body; seizing my matted locks, he bent my face down and placed his own face upon it. Pressing mouth to mouth, he uttered a sound—one that filled my heart with intense exhilaration. The passage underscores how overpowering physical intimacy can disturb discernment, and it implicitly invites ethical vigilance about consent, restraint, and the governance of desire.

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the power of sensory contact to overwhelm the mind; it implicitly points toward dharmic restraint—maintaining clarity, boundaries, and ethical awareness (especially regarding consent) when desire is provoked.

The speaker recounts an episode of repeated physical embrace: the other person grasps his matted hair, bends his face, and presses mouth to mouth, uttering a sound that causes the speaker intense exhilaration.
