मैत्रेयागमनम् — The Arrival of Maitreya and the Admonition to Duryodhana
चिक्षेप चोल्मुकं दीप्तमशनिं ज्वलितामिव । तदुदस्तमलातं तु भीम: प्रहरतां वर:
cikṣepa colmukaṃ dīptam aśaniṃ jvalitām iva | tad udastam alātaṃ tu bhīmaḥ praharatāṃ varaḥ ||
He hurled a blazing firebrand, like a lightning-bolt aflame. But that cast-off, glowing brand was struck down by Bhīma—the foremost among those who smite—showing swift strength and vigilance in the face of sudden violence.
विदुर उवाच
The verse highlights alertness and disciplined strength: sudden aggression should be met with steady, proportionate response, protecting others without losing composure—an aspect of righteous warriorly conduct.
An attacker throws a blazing firebrand, likened to flaming lightning. Bhīma, renowned for his striking power, counters and knocks down the hurled burning brand.
