Educational Q&A

Even at the threshold of the afterlife, Yudhiṣṭhira’s dharmic conscience remains active: he questions apparent moral order and refuses to accept a vision of reward/punishment that seems to exclude the worthy. The verse foregrounds ethical scrutiny, compassion, and loyalty as integral to dharma—not mere passive acceptance.

In Svargārohaṇa, Yudhiṣṭhira is shown a troubling scene and, addressing the gods, asks why he cannot see Karṇa (Rādheya) and the warriors Yudhāmanyu and Uttamaujas. His question signals confusion and concern about the fate of comrades and rivals after death, setting up the ensuing moral test.
