जयद्रथस्य कर्णस्य तथैव द्रोणभीष्मयो: । अभिमन्योर्विनाशं च कश्चिन्तयितुमहति,“इस युद्धमें जयद्रथ, कर्ण, द्रोणाचार्य, भीष्म और अभिमन्यु-जैसे वीरोंका विनाश हो जायगा, यह कौन सोच सकता था?
jayadrathasya karṇasya tathaiva droṇabhīṣmayoḥ | abhimanyor vināśaṃ ca kaś cintayitum arhati ||
Vaiśampāyana said: Who could ever have imagined that in this war the destruction of heroes such as Jayadratha, Karṇa, Droṇa, Bhīṣma, and Abhimanyu would come to pass? The verse underscores the war’s shocking reversal of human expectations and the grim moral weight of a conflict in which even the greatest warriors are not spared.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Even the mightiest are subject to collapse in a war driven by destiny and accumulated causes; the verse highlights the unpredictability and moral gravity of violence, where fame and strength cannot guarantee survival.
Vaiśampāyana reflects on the astonishing outcome of the Kurukṣetra war: renowned champions—Jayadratha, Karṇa, Droṇa, Bhīṣma, and the young hero Abhimanyu—have been destroyed, a result that would have seemed unimaginable beforehand.
