Strī Parva 1: Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s Lament and Saṃjaya’s Consolation

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the moral and psychological consequence of adharma-driven war: attachment and partiality culminate in overwhelming grief when the inevitable collapse of one’s side arrives.

Dhṛtarāṣṭra reacts to reports of catastrophic losses for the Kauravas—Duḥśāsana’s slaying, Karṇa’s destruction, and the ‘eclipsing’ (downfall) of the mighty Droṇa—expressing that his heart is breaking.
