Sanjaya said: O King, hearing these words of the king, the valiant ruler of Madra, Shalya, then addressed Duryodhana with the following reply. The scene turns to Shalyas warriorly response, setting the moral tension between loyalty to an ally and the hard truths demanded by dharma amid war.
संजय उवाच
The verse frames a dharmic moment in war: true counsel must be spoken even among allies. By introducing Shalyas reply to Duryodhana, it signals that valor and loyalty are not enough without clear-eyed discernment and ethically grounded advice.
Sanjaya reports to Dhritarashtra that Shalya, the powerful king of Madra, has heard Duryodhanas words and is about to respond. This is a transition verse setting up Shalyas forthcoming speech.
