Duryodhana’s Refusal of Reconciliation
yuṣmābhis tāni cīrṇāni yāny asādhūni sādhuṣu | akāraṇakṛtāny eva teṣāṃ vaḥ phalam āgatam ||
Sanjaya said: The wrongful acts you committed against the righteous—done without any just cause—have now returned to you as their inevitable consequence. Since the Pāṇḍavas are men of virtue, your unprovoked misconduct toward them has ripened into this very result you are suffering.
Unprovoked harm done to the virtuous inevitably returns as suffering to the doer; ethical causality (karma-phala) operates even amid war.
Sanjaya addresses the Kaurava side, pointing out that their present calamity is the direct outcome of earlier unjust conduct toward the Pāṇḍavas, who are characterized as sādhu (righteous).
