Duryodhana’s Refusal of Reconciliation
vāyunā iva vidhūtāni tava sainyāni sarvataḥ | śarad-ambhoda-jālāni vyaśīryanta samantataḥ ||
Sañjaya said: “Just as the wind in autumn tears apart and scatters masses of clouds, so too your armies, struck down in battle, were broken and dispersed in every direction.”

The verse highlights the fragility of worldly power in war: even vast armies can be swiftly scattered when struck by superior force, like cloud-banks broken by the autumn wind—an image underscoring impermanence and the limits of pride in might.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that the Kaurava troops have been thrown into disarray and dispersed on all sides, using a vivid seasonal simile (autumn wind scattering clouds) to convey the scale and suddenness of the rout.
