Sauptika Parva, Adhyaya 8 — Dhṛṣṭadyumna-vadha and the Camp’s Nocturnal Rout

evam uktvā tu vacanaṃ virarāma parantapaḥ | sutaḥ pāñcālarājasya ākrānto balinā bhṛśam ||

Sañjaya said: Having spoken these words, the foe-scorching prince of the Pāñcāla king fell silent—overpowered and pressed down with great force by the mighty assailant. The scene underscores the brutal imbalance of power in the night slaughter, where speech and appeal give way to sheer violence, raising a stark ethical contrast between warrior codes and ruthless killing.
