कितनोंने बाजूबंदोंके स्थानमें बड़े-बड़े सर्प धारण कर रखे थे। कितने ही विचित्र आभूषणोंसे विभूषित थे, बहुतोंके शरीर धूलि-धूसर हो रहे थे। कितने ही अपने अंगोंमें कीचड़ लपेटे हुए थे। उन सबने श्वेत वस्त्र और श्वेत फ़ूलोंकी माला धारण कर रखी थी ।। नीलाजड़्ा: पिड़लाड्राश्न मुण्डवक्त्रास्तथैव च | भेरीशड्खमृदड्ांश्ष झर्सरानकगोमुखान्‌,कितनोंके अंग नील और पिंगलवर्णके थे। कितनोंने अपने मस्तकके बाल मुँड़वा दिये। कितने ही सुनहरी प्रभासे प्रकाशित हो रहे थे। वे सभी पार्षद हर्षसे उत्फुल्ल हो भेरी, शंख, मृदंग, झाँझ, ढोल और गोमुख बजा रहे थे। कितने ही गीत गा रहे थे और दूसरे बहुत-से पार्षद नाच रहे थे

nīlājaṭāḥ piṅgalāṅgāś ca muṇḍavaktrās tathaiva ca | bherīśaṅkhamṛdaṅgāṃś ca jharjharānakanagomukhān ||

Sañjaya said: Some of those attendants had blue matted locks, some had tawny-hued limbs, and some had their heads shaven. Some shone with a golden radiance. Exulting with joy, they sounded kettledrums and conches, beat the mṛdaṅga, and played the jharjhara, ānaka, and gomukha instruments—while some sang and many others danced. The scene conveys a fierce, otherworldly celebration surrounding the night’s grim events, highlighting how the powers invoked in war can appear splendid and terrifying even when the human action is ethically dark.
