Sañjaya said: “O hero, they are your kinsmen by birth—therefore natural friends. O lord, win them back again through conciliation and make them your allies. If you, being gracious, accept friendship with the Pāṇḍavas, an incomparable good for the whole world could be accomplished through you.”

Educational Q&A

Even amid inevitable conflict, ethical counsel prioritizes reconciliation: since kinship creates a natural bond, one should attempt sāman (peaceful persuasion) and alliance, aiming at jagaddhita—benefit for the wider world—rather than personal victory.

Sañjaya urges a powerful warrior-lord to abandon hostility and re-establish friendship with the Pāṇḍavas, arguing that they are relatives by birth and that the ruler’s gracious acceptance of peace could bring unparalleled welfare to the world.
