Karṇa-parva Adhyāya 19 — Saṃśaptaka–Trigarta Assault and Aindra-astra Counter
शिरश्न तत् पूर्णशशिप्रभाननं सरोषताम्रायतनेत्रमुन्नसम् । क्षितावपि भ्राजति तत् सकुण्डलं विशाखयोर्मध्यगत: शशी यथा,जिसका मुखमण्डल पूर्ण चन्द्रमाके सदृश प्रकाशमान तथा नेत्र क्रोधके कारण अरुणवर्ण थे, जिसकी नासिका ऊँची थी, वह पाण्ड्यराजका कुण्डलमण्डित मस्तक पृथ्वीपर गिरकर भी दो विशाखा नक्षत्रोंक बीचमें विराजमान चन्द्रमाके समान सुशोभित हो रहा था
śiraś ca tat pūrṇaśaśiprabhānanaṃ saroṣatāmrāyatanetram unnasam | kṣitāv api bhrājati tat sakuṇḍalaṃ viśākhayor madhyagataḥ śaśī yathā ||
Sañjaya said: Even after it had fallen upon the earth, that head—its face radiant like the full moon, its eyes reddened by wrath, its nose high and prominent, and adorned with earrings—still shone splendidly, like the moon poised between the twin stars of Viśākhā. The verse underscores the tragic irony of war: even a king’s noble beauty and valor cannot avert the fate brought by rage and the battlefield’s ruthless law.
