Adhyāya 17 — गजयुद्ध-वृत्तान्तः, सहदेव-दुःशासन-संघर्षः, नकुल-कर्ण-समागमः

इतीव भूयश्न सुहृद्धिरीरिता निशम्य वाच: सुमनास्ततोअर्जुन: | यथानुरूपं प्रतिपूज्य तं जनं जगाम संशप्तकसंघहा पुन:
itīva bhūyaś ca suhṛdbhir īritā niśamya vācaḥ sumanās tato 'rjunaḥ | yathānurūpaṃ pratipūjya taṃ janaṃ jagāma saṃśaptaka-saṅgha-hā punaḥ ||
Sañjaya said: Hearing again those words spoken by his well-wishing friends, Arjuna’s mind grew calm and clear. Having responded with due honor to those people in a manner fitting to the occasion, he once more went forth as the slayer of the band of the Saṃśaptakas.
संजय उवाच
Even amid battle, right conduct includes listening to well-wishers, regaining composure, and responding with appropriate respect; then one returns to one’s duty with steadiness and resolve.
After hearing further words from his friendly supporters, Arjuna becomes composed, honors them suitably, and then goes back into combat, specifically to confront and destroy the Saṃśaptaka troop.
