Sañjaya said: Approaching Bhāradvāja’s son (Droṇa) who stood at the very front of the battle-formation, the sons of Pṛthā engaged him in combat on the field, intent on breaking through Droṇa’s army and piercing the array.

The verse highlights the kṣatriya ethic of confronting the foremost commander directly and the strategic imperative of breaking an enemy formation (vyūha-bheda). It frames courage and tactical intent within the larger dharmic burden of war.
Sañjaya reports that the Pāṇḍavas advance to where Droṇa stands at the head of the formation and begin fighting him, aiming to rupture Droṇa’s battle-array and force a passage through his forces.
